In 2022, the Mediterranean Waterbirds Network (MWN) workshop took place on the 9th-10th of April in Lucerne, Switzerland.

Topics of the workshop

During the meeting, several topics were discussed, including:

• the feedbacks from each country on the effictiveness of Ramsar label in ensuring the protection of designated wetlands, and possible actions to improve it;

• a shared platform on illegal activities against waterbirds recorded during the International Waterbird Censuses (IWCs);

• discussions on the monitoring of colonial breeding species and whether it is possible or not for it to be implemented in a coordinated way;

• AEWA technical reports and possible improvements.
